Prominent Brazilian Franciscan murdered

March 11, 2016

A Brazilian Franciscan priest who took part in the 2015 synod of bishops on the family was murdered on March 9 during a carjacking attempt.

Father Antônio Moser, 75, was professor emeritus of moral and ethical theology at the Franciscan Theological Institute in Petropolis, Brazil and head of a leading Catholic publishing house.

According to Brazilian news reports, Father Moser was driving alone when two armed men on a motorcycle approached his car. When the priest accelerated to get away, one of the men fired at the car, killing the priest.
