Vatican Lenten Retreat: Church must focus on God, not on herself
March 08, 2016
At the annual Lenten Retreat for the Roman Curia on Tuesday, Father Ermes Ronchi exhorted the Vatican leaders to "think of the beauty of a Church that does not shine the spotlight on herself."
Father Ronchi, who is leading the week-long spiritual exercises, devoted a morning meditation to St. Peter's profession of faith. He pointed out that this came immediately after Jesus asked his disciples what other people thought of Him. The point, the preacher said, was that Jesus wants his followers to look within their own hearts, not to worry about popular opinion. The Lord wants his people open their hearts completely to Him.
The human heart, Father Ronchi observed, "can be the crade or the tomb of God."
