Yakima diocese discourages attendance at pro-life fundraiser addressed by Laura Ingraham

February 25, 2016

The Diocese of Yakima, Washington, has instructed pastors to discourage Catholics from attending a fundraising event for a pro-life effort, at which talk-show host Laura Ingraham will be the featured speaker.

Ingraham, an outspoken conservative who has taken a strong stand against illegal immigration, is scheduled to speak at a dinner to benefit Image Point Mobile Medical Services, a group that offers ultrasound exams and pro-life counseling to women considering abortion. In an email message to pastors of the Yakima diocese, Msgr. Robert Siler criticized Image Point for its inability to "collaborate in a meaningful way with the diocese."

Msgr. Siler went on to say that Ingraham, while strongly pro-life, "is a strident opponent of many of the immigration positions held by the US bishops." Her presence, he said, "sends a profoundly mixed message to our community."

The diocese said that Ingraham has called for "the deportation of entire families, including children who are American citizens." The statement added that she "often employs harsh rhetoric."

Examination of Conscience: 1)Has this diocese opposed and tried to ban Catholic churches, colleges and organizations from inviting the likes of Pelosi, Obama, Biden or any known pro-abortion speaker/supporter from speaking at their events? 2) Have they done the same for those who support gay marriage? 3) Have they lobbied against the gay agenda and support organizations at their colleges? 4)Have they tried to ban the Vagina Monologues at all colleges in the diocese? If not, shame! And clam up!

"Employs harsh rhetoric" is code for "she tells the whole truth." I for one would not be confused by her presence at a pro-life fundraiser. Catholic charities and USCCB are raking in millions of government dollars for resettlement of illegals - actually profiting from our broken borders. Of course they don't want Laura Ingraham speaking against the source or such huge income. Please spare me the sanctimonious drivel from this band of money grubbers - they've sold their souls, but I haven't.

A mixed message. Bishops often remain silent when pro abortion speakers and politicians talk, but are happy to speak out against a pro-lifer because they have a view different to the Bishops on immigration - a view not contrary to the Catholic faith.

Astonishing !! Laura Ingraham is one of the most intelligent, realistic, Catholic, generous, caring, anti abortion women in public life. She speaks the truth and backs it up with her behavior and life. She has three foreign-born adopted children - one a Latino born in Guatemala. Perhaps the Bishop might want Point Mobile to invite President Obama. Or how about someone from La Raza where they might find someone who cares about Life & who advocates turning over part of our Country to Mexico.

Ah, the Seamless Garment flaps again. The teaching against abortion is magisterial. The bishop apparently wants us to think that the bishops' opinions on immigration merit the same assent of faith. Because they do not, and are merely political preferences on matters about which reasonable men can differ, this is merely a cheap political slap at someone who deserves to be treated with respect, especially as she is appearing for the pro-life cause, not talking about immigration.
