Jerusalem bishop: work with Assad to defeat Islamic State

At a recent conference in Cologne, Auxiliary Bishop William Shomali of Jerusalem called upon the international community to work with the Syrian government to defeat the Islamic State, which controls about half of the nation’s territory.

“It is essential to cooperate with Assad, a democratically elected president, to eradicate the so-called Islamic State,” he said. “After that, a cease-fire must be applied immediately. Then should follow the reconstruction of Syria and the return of millions of Syrian refugees.”
