Papal preacher begins weekly Lenten sermons
February 19, 2016
Father Raniero Cantalamessa, the Capuchin Franciscan friar who has served as preacher to the papal household since 1980, devoted his February 19 Lenten sermon to the theme of “Worship in Spirit and Truth: Reflections on Sacrosanctum Concilium,” the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy.
The four sections of Father Cantalamessa’s homily, preached in the Pope’s presence, were entitled “the Second Vatican Council: a tributary, not the river,” “the place of the Holy Spirit in the liturgy,” “worship ‘in the Spirit,’” and “intercessory prayer.”
