Drug trafficking a ‘scourge’ in North America, says Vatican Secretary of State

February 12, 2016

In an interview devoted to Pope Francis’s apostolic journey to Mexico, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, described drug abuse and trafficking as “one of the scourges of the continent.”

“First of all, one must raise his voice to condemn corruption and the links that exist between certain structures of power and the drug cartels,” Cardinal Pietro Parolin told Famiglia Cristiana.

The prelate also spoke about migration, poverty, and Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose appearance, he noted, led to “a wave of conversions that has few parallels in the history of the Church.”
