Italian group for divorced/remarried Catholics gets special invitation to papal audience

February 09, 2016

Pope Francis has invited members of an Italian group, devoted to helping divorced Catholics, to attend a papal audience, the Crux news site reports.

The Pontiff called Deacon Paolo Tassinari, who heads a group called L'Anello Perduto ("The Lost Ring") in the Fossano diocese, to bring members of the organization to a papal audience. Although no date has been set for the group's visit to the Vatican, it seems likely to occur before the Pope issues his much-anticipated document on the Synod for the Family, in which he will address the question of pastoral care for Catholics who are divorced and remarried.

L'Anello Perduto, founded in 2008, has not been involved in any public effort to change the Church's discipline barring divorced and remarried Catholics from receiving Communion. The group concentrates on helping Catholics who are in irregular marriages to live out their faith according to the Church's teachings.
