In video message to Mexico, Pope anticipates visit with 'great joy'

February 08, 2016

In a message to the people of Mexico, released less than the week before his arrival there, Pope Francis says, “I feel great joy” at the prospect of the visit.

“I want to come as a missionary of mercy and peace,” the Pope says in his video message. He encouraged the Mexican people to prepare for his visit with prayer, saying that he was doing the same.

Looking forward to this visit, which will take place February 12 to 18, the Pope emphasized his interest in praying at the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. “Would you like me to share with you one of my greatest wishes?” he said. “It is to be able to visit the home of the Virgin Mary.”
