Prelate encourages, challenges Ivory Coast president

The Ivory Coast’s Christian and Muslim leaders met with President Alassane Ouattara on January 5, with the head of the episcopal conference praising Ouattara’s efforts to repatriate refugees from the Second Ivorian Civil War (2011).

Bishop Alexis Touably Youlo of Agboville added that “economic stoutness” is not the only measure of well-being, according to a local media report. He challenged Ouattara, a Muslim who attended college in the United States, to “redouble your efforts in relentless pursuit of reconciliation, peace, and social cohesion.”

The nation of 23.9 million is 39% Muslim, 24% Catholic, and 7% Protestant, with 12% adhering to indigenous beliefs.
