Sir James MacMillan, Scottish composer, named 'Catholic of the Year' by Catholic Herald

December 18, 2015

The Catholic Herald of London has named Sir James MacMillan, the composer and conductor, as its 2015 Catholic of the Year.

In making the award, the paper cited the Scottish musician’s “fight against the new secular establishments, in the United Kingdom and especially in Scotland, that mock and marginalize the Catholic faith.” The award also mentioned MacMillan’s “holy war on the 1970s-style Mass settings that he describes as ‘musically illiterate.’”
