Concept of God’s mercy leads to conversions in Mongolia, says priest

December 17, 2015

Most Mongolians who have embraced the Catholic faith have done so because of the concept of God the Father’s mercy, according to priest who ministers in Arvaikheer, a city of 25,000.

Missionaries first arrived in the formerly Communist nation in 1992. Today, according to AsiaNews, there are 1,100 Mongolian Catholics in six parishes.

“Almost all those who have embraced Christianity have done so because of the possibility of forgiveness and the idea that sin does not mark one forever,” said Father Giorgio Marengo.

“The tender mercy of God the Father has great resonance,” he added. “A merciful God is such a wonder, and the concept of forgiveness as new life is revolutionary. Mongolians like the idea that one can always start over. It is something that shakes up their lives.”
