Pontiff recalls 900th anniversary of St. Anselm’s death
April 22, 2009
The Holy See Press Office on April 21 released a papal message-- addressed to the abbot primate of the Order of St. Benedict-- commemorating the 900th anniversary of the death of St. Anselm, the Benedictine monk who was born in the northern Italian city of Aosta, became abbot of Bec in Normandy, and was consecrated Archbishop of Canterbury. Known as the Father of Scholasticism, he is one of the 33 doctors of the Church. On April 22, the Press Office released a second papal message addressed to Cardinal Giacomo Biffi, the pontifical envoy to the solemn commemoration of the 900th anniversary.
