Argentina’s bishops decry drug trafficking

Stating that the nation is in need of “urgent conversion,” the Argentine Episcopal Conference has issued a statement decrying drug trafficking and the violence associated with it.

“We are especially addressing those who belong to criminal groups, those who look with indifference upon the tragedy their brothers are going through, those who are collaborating by omission or commission in the spread of this scourge,” the bishops said in their recent statement.
“The government needs to deploy an organized force to neutralize the enormous damage it causes,” they continued. “Drug trafficking is conducted in the most brutal spirit of capitalism and the idolatry of money: it's inseparable from them.”
The nation of 43.4 million is 92% Catholic, 2% Protestant, and 2% Jewish.
