Two million expected for papal Mass at Ugandan Martyrs' shrine

November 24, 2015

Two million people are expected to attend a Mass celebrated by Pope Francis at the shrine of the Ugandan martyrs in Uganda on Saturday, November 28.

The shrine in Kampala, and the roads leading to it, have been undergoing major renovations in preparation for the papal visit. “To receive all these people is not easy,” remarks Father Vincent Lubega, the rector of the shrine.

Archbishop John Baptist Odama, president of the Ugandan bishops’ conference, says that the visit to the shrine was the “top priority” for Pope Francis when he accepted the invitation to travel to Uganda.
