Louisiana diocese will introduce 'mobile confessional'

November 13, 2015

The Diocese of Lafayette, Louisiana, has announced plans to deploy a mobile confessional: a converted ambulance that will bring the Sacrament of Reconciliation to the streets during the Jubilee Year of Mercy.

Bishop Michael Jarrell explained that the mobile confessional is a response to the challenge from Pope Francis to encourage confessions during the Jubilee Year. “I think many people miss opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation because of busy schedules so here we’re trying to remove that obstacle,” he said.

The mobile confessional, which can be driven to any location where people might be gathered, will be put into service on December 8, the feast of the Immaculate Conception and the opening day of the Jubilee Year.
