Kenyan bishop calls for national prayer, conversion ahead of papal visit

November 10, 2015

As Pope Francis prepares to make his apostolic journey to three African nations, the Kenyan bishop responsible for coordinating his visit there issued a call to national prayer and conversion.

“Our nation is facing great trials that threaten to tear it apart,” said Bishop Alfred Rotich. “Our country and the people of Kenya already have to contend with many afflictions such as the escalating economic challenges of modern day living, and cannot contend with disunity at the leadership level.”

“We declare and demand an honest ceasefire and end to the incessant name calling among our politicians,” he continued. “We urge an end to the ethnic undertones and inciting remarks by leaders who were elected to protect the welfare of all people.”

“We call for national prayers and conversion,” he added. “Let us take this opportunity to seek a new life and anew beginning in our country, our families and our places of work.”
