German diocese concedes 'plausible' abuse complaint against deceased bishop

November 06, 2015

The Diocese of Hildesheim, Germany, has revealed that a man has made a “plausible” complaint that he was molested by the bishop there about 50 years ago.

The diocese made a payment to the unidentified man in “recognition of his suffering,” Church officials said. The man had claimed that he was abused by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen, who led the diocese from 1957 until his retirement in 1983. Bishop Janssen died in 1988.
