Common Core architect will keynote National Catholic Education Association meeting

November 05, 2015

The chief architect of the Common Core program will give the keynote address at the March 2016 meeting of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA).

Noting the NCEA announcement, the Cardinal Newman Society has said that the choice of David Coleman as keynote speaker raises new “concerns that the Catholic association remains devoted to the Common Core standards despite serious concerns about their impact on Catholic schools.”The Common Core standards have been a subject of controversy among Catholic educators, with critics charging that the compromise the independence and religious identity of Catholic schools. Denise Donohue, who oversees elementary education programs for the Cardinal Newman Society, argues that the Common Core standards “fail miserably” at allowing for a Christ-centered approach to education.

Common Core is a common crime, especially for Catholic schools. Another validating data for my decision to stay away from NCEA.
