Papal appeal for Central African Republic
November 02, 2015
Following the recitation of the Angelus on November 1, Pope Francis appeal for peace in the Central African Republic.
The Pontiff is scheduled to visit the nation on November 29 and 30 during the final part of his apostolic journey to Africa; that visit could be in jeopardy because of the escalating violence.
“The painful episodes of the past days that have worsened the delicate situation in the Central African Republic,” the Pope said to the crowds gathered in St. Peter’s Square. “I appeal to the parties involved to put an end to this cycle of violence.”
Pope Francis expressed his closeness to the Comboni Missionaries who are ministering to refugees at a parish in Bangui, the nation’s capital, as well as to all who are working for peace in the strife-torn nation. The Pope also announced he would open the holy door for the extraordinary jubilee of mercy at Bangui’s cathedral on November 29, “during the apostolic journey that I hope to be able to accomplish in that nation.”
