St. Paul archdiocese seeks extension in bankruptcy filing

The Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis, Minnesota, has asked a federal bankruptcy court to extend the deadline for filing a reorganization plan.

Citing the number of "difficult issues to be resolved before completion of the mediation process"-- primarily more than 400 sex-abuse claims-- the archdiocese asked the court to extend the deadline until May 2016.
The Minnesota archdiocese filed for bankruptcy protection in January, becoming the 12th Catholic diocese in the US to take that step in the wake of the sex-abuse scandal.
