Papal condolences following earthquake in Afghanistan, Pakistan

October 28, 2015

Cardinal Pietro Parolin has sent a telegram of condolence in Pope Francis’s name following the Hindu Kush earthquake, which left hundreds dead in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The Pope “expresses his heartfelt solidarity with all those affected by this disaster, and he offers the assurance of his prayers for the dead, as well as for the injured and those still missing,” Cardinal Parolin said in his October 27 telegram to the apostolic nuncio to Pakistan.

“Upon all those who mourn the loss of loved ones and upon the civil authorities and emergency personnel involved in the relief efforts, Pope Francis invokes the divine blessings of consolation and strength,” he added.

At his regular weekly public audience on October 28, the Pope asked for prayers for the earthquake victims: "for the deceased, for their families, and for all those injured and homeless, imploring consolation in suffering and courage in adversity." He added a call for "concrete solidarity" with the victims.
