Program announced for papal trip to Africa

The Holy See Press Office has announced the program of Pope Francis’s upcoming apostolic journey to Kenya, Uganda, and the Central African Republic.

The Pontiff will arrive in Kenya on November 25 and remain in Nairobi, the nation’s capital. Eleven events are planned during his days in Kenya, including Mass at the University of Nairobi.

The Pope will be in Uganda from the evening of November 27 until the morning of November 29. During his visit, he will visit the shrines of the 23 Anglicans and 22 Catholics who chose to suffer martyrdom rather than submit to the advances of King Mwanga II (1885-87).

Despite a recent resurgence of violence in the Central African Republic, the Holy See Press Office confirmed the Pope’s plans to visit the nation on November 29 and 30. The nation’s leading Catholic prelate, Protestant leader, and Muslim cleric have worked together on behalf of peace, and the Pontiff will celebrate Mass in the cathedral of the nation’s capital, meet with the evangelical Protestant community, and a visit a mosque and a refugee camp.
