Papal trip to Mexico planned for 2016

October 06, 2015

Pope Francis is planning a trip to Mexico next year, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The Pope reportedly considered adding Mexico to his itinerary for his latest trip to Cuba and the United States, but concluded that it would be better to make another trip rather than lengthen what was already a demanding tour.

No dates for the proposed trip to Mexico have been disclosed, but the Vatican has confirmed that a "project exists," the Wall Street Journal reported. The Pope would visit the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, in keeping with his pattern of traveling to a Marian sanctuary on each of his foreign trips. No other firm plans are yet in place.
