Government corruption in South Africa is a ‘national emergency,’ says bishop

Thousands of South Africans took to the streets on September 30 to march against corruption, and bishop who leads the episcopal conference’s justice and peace commission renewed his criticism of President Jacob Zuma’s African National Congress.

“Rhetoric is not enough, incisive interventions are needed, this is a national emergency,” Bishop Abel Gabuza of Kimberley told the Missionary International Service News Agency. “We are convinced that the government of the African National Congress is not serious enough in its prevention and fight against corruption.”
