Kenya’s bishops offer to mediate in teachers’ strike

September 30, 2015

The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops has offered to mediate in a national teachers’ strike that has lasted nearly a month.

“We religious leaders are ready to mediate in this process to find an amicable lasting solution to the current impasse to enable normal learning to resume,” said Bishop Phillip Anyolo of Homa Bay, the conference’s chairman, according to the Catholic Information Service for Africa. “Both sides must step back from the brink of an all-out industrial confrontation for the sake of our country.”

The East African nation of 44.4 million is 54% Protestant, 29% Catholic, and 11% Muslim.
