Vatican official cleared of charges in Italian real-estate sale

An Italian prosecutor has cleared Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, the president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, of charges that he was involved in the suspicious sale of a historic Italian castle.
An investigation into the sale of the San Girolamo Castle in Narni confirmed the “total non-involvement” of Archbishop Paglia, a prosecuting judge announced.
The questionable sale took place in 2001, at a time when then-Bishop Paglia led the Diocese of Terni. Prosecutors arrested three people in 2013, saying that the palace was sold for well below market value, and the buyer reportedly used diocesan funds. But while questions remain about the sale, the bishop has been cleared of any wrongdoing, the judge said.
