Pope speaks to each reporter on plane flight to Cuba

September 21, 2015

During his flight from Rome to Cuba on September 19, Pope Francis met with each reporter on the papal plane, offering brief individual greetings.

Shortly after takeoff the Pope ventured into the reporters' section of the plane. He spoke for a few moments-- emphasizing his desire for peace and his concern for refugees and victims of warfare-- and then passed slowly up and down the aisles, exchanging a few words with each member of the press corps.

In his foreign travels, Pope Francis has established a pattern of speaking informally with reporters on the flight from Rome, and then holding a more organized question-and-answer session on the return flight.
