Italian bishop beatified
September 21, 2015
Archbishop Pio Alberto del Corona (1837-1912), an Italian Dominican who served as bishop of San Miniato, Italy, was beatified on September 19.
Cardinal Angelo Amato, the prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, presided over the rite, which took place in San Miniato.
Del Corona, who founded the Dominican Sisters of the Holy Spirit, “was a zealous guide and wise teacher of the people entrusted to him,” Pope Francis said after his September 16 general audience. “May his example and his intercession help the Church to walk in the spirit of the Gospel, bearing the fruit of good works.”
