Church teaching on remarriage is ludicrous, Boston pastor writes

September 14, 2015

A senior priest of the Boston archdiocese has referred to Church teaching on marriage as “ludicrous” in a column that appeared in the archdiocesan newspaper, the Pilot.

“It is ludicrous to assert that divorced couples who have found love and fidelity with new spouses are still recognized by the Church as being married to their former spouses after the passage of many years,” wrote Msgr. Paul Garrity, a pastor in Lexington. “It is equally untenable (and disrespectful) to try to convince these happily married couples that, in fact, their relationships are sinful.”

Why would the diocesan paper even print this dissident's column? I think that it's time to put this senior priest out to pasture.

    Guess Jesus was wrong.

If Boston's Card. O'Malley stays silent about this, that will mean his approval for what Fr. Garrity said about the Church teachings being "ludicrous." But interestingly, so far, no one known of Boston's Catholic clergy used that very adjective describing "gay marriage"

Many opinions, but only one authoritative teaching.

Atrocious, heretical behavior on the part of this pastor. Will O'Malley sit idly by and let this stand? Garrity should be removed.

What is a Marriage Covenant? Is it real or just a figment of romantic love? Is it for life and unity and children or is it a "pop" creation of modern life? I'd be surprised if this Priest was not ordained between 65 and 70, or around the time of Pope Francis' training.

Will the bishop allow this article to go without comment? Is this priest following the Church's teaching?

    Schism, here we come.
