September 09, 2015
Bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst, the German prelate who resigned under heavy criticism for his use of diocesan funds, will not be face further canonical discipline, nor will he be required to repay the Limburg diocese for expenses he incurred.
The Limburg diocese has disclosed that the Vatican’s Congregation for Bishops has no plans to institute canonical proceedings against the deposed bishop. No formal complaint against Bishop Tebartz-van Elst was ever filed by the diocese, although officials in the Limburg diocese had told reporters that they would seek some compensation.
