Cardinal Wuerl highlights need to preserve religious freedom

Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington, DC, has issued a new statement calling attention to the dangers to religious freedom in the US.

"We really don't think government should be telling us how we should be practicing our faith," the cardinal told the Washington Examiner. "Religious freedom shouldn't be determined for us by somebody else any more than people in the media would want freedom of speech to be determined by somebody else.”

    The problems are mostly of the bishops' own making,if not present bishops,then their predecessors who,in the name of seamless garments and social justice, supported the Party of gay unions, abortion and death because it sold itself as the Party of the poor, whom they have actually made more poor, the Party of peace and justice and immigrants. That is the Party that has now turned around and hit the bishops with its own agenda. Now the bishops are singing the blues. They brought it on themselvs

    Why is the USCCB not taking a stand on freedom of religion. Are they afraid that their friends in Congress will cut the funding for pet projects? Kudos to Cardinal Wuerl for taking a stand!

    "We really don't think government should be telling us how we should be practicing our faith...". The problem is that Cardinal Wuerl also thinks Church government shouldn't be telling him how to treat practicing gays and legislators who vote for abortion when they want to receive the Eucharist.
