Kim Davis, Kentucky county clerk, to be released from prison

September 08, 2015

A federal judge in Kentucky has ordered the release of Kim Davis, the county clerk who was jailed because she refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Judge David Bunning, who had sent Davis to jail, finding her in contempt of court, said that she could now be released because her deputies had agreed to provide same-sex couples with marriage licenses.

The judge ordered Davis not to interfere with her subordinates in this regard, or face further "appropriate sanctions."

Lawyers for Davis have indicated that they will appeal the contempt-of-court finding against her.

So can a Christian even hold office in a country where the laws of the land go against the laws of God? It would seem to me that no faithful Christian can run for an office that would put his Faith in contradiction to the law he swears to uphold.

Our Bishops should have been supportive of Kim Davis - loud and clear. The red herring about obeying the law of the land should have been called out for what it is. The Supremes cannot make law. Doesn't anyone understand this any more?

It has been widely noted by the media that the judge who threw Kim in jail is a "conservative practicing Catholic" implying the Catholics aren't really concerned about same sex marriage and religious freedom. Perhaps Catholics should hear more on this subject from the pulpit. The silence is deafening!

Thanks be to God! However, the judge's logic and his understanding of justice are extremely poor. If Kim Davis was jailed for her "contempt of court," what does it have to do with the deputy clerks deciding to issue gay "marriage" licenses? I hope that her case will pave the way to a legal recognition and respect for religious objections to the newly formed "laws" that violate fundamental principles of faith and morality.
