First Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation: liturgy in Vatican basilica

September 01, 2015

Pope Francis presided on September 1 at the first World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, with a Liturgy of the Word in St. Peter’s basilica.

The service included readings from a canticle of the Book of Daniel, from the Book of Genesis, from the Gospel of St. Matthew, from the Pope’s encyclical Laudato Si’, and from St. Francis’ “Canticle of the Sun.”

In his homily the preacher of the pontifical household, Father Raniero Cantalamessa, said that God’s command to “Fill the earth and subdue it” called for stewardship rather than domination.

He went on to say that when Jesus told his disciples not to worry about the future, his message was “do not worry about your future, but worry about the future of those who come after you.”

The service concluded with Pope Francis offering a blessing:

May your blessing act in us, O Lord, and transform us with your renewing power, so that we might be wholly disposed to the service of what is good.

God created the world/life - plant, animal/human. Now some scientist claim 1 of the 2 elements God created for life, is a pollutant. Unless it is controlled or eliminated the world/life is doomed in 80 years. They call CO2 the pollutant. Plants need CO2 to grow and give us O2 in return which we need to live. They call "Greenhouse gases" in the atmosphere poison; yet they call it greenhouse gases because CO2 is injected in Gr. houses to grow plants. The Pope and bishops say God made a mistake.
