Pope Emeritus celebrates Mass for former students

September 01, 2015

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI celebrated Mass for his former students on August 30, the closing day of the annual Ratzinger Schülerkreis.

During the Mass, which took place on August 30 at the Teutonic College in Rome, the Pope Emeritus preached on the day’s Gospel reading and spoke of “interior hygiene,” “the hygiene of the heart.”

Reflecting on Christ’s words that “you are already made clean by the word which I have spoken to you,” the Pope Emeritus preached that it is ultimately the Word himself, Jesus Christ, who purifies us.
