Papal condolences for hurricane victims

September 01, 2015

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, has sent a telegram of condolence in the name of the Holy Father to the bishop of Roseau, Dominica, the island nation that was the site of a hurricane that recently claimed 20 lives.

“Deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of life and destruction in the wake of Hurricane Erika, His Holiness Pope Francis sends his heartfelt condolences to the relatives of the deceased and prays for all those providing rescue and relief service,” Cardinal Parolin said in his August 31 telegram.

“In commending the dead to the loving mercy of God, the Holy Father invokes upon their grieving families and all those affected by this disaster the blessings of perseverance, hope and peace,” he added.
