Ukrainian Catholic leader: be willing to give up your lives to preserve independence

As the Russian military intervenes in eastern Ukraine, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church called upon Ukrainians to be “Christian patriots” who are willing to die to preserve their independence.
“Those who do not love their motherland will always be strangers and exiles in this land,” Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk preached on August 23. “Our freedom, our future, our personal well-being are impossible without an assertion and existence of an independent Ukrainian state.”
