Cardinal Tagle: work with other religions to spread encyclical’s message

August 24, 2015

In an address to Indonesia’s bishops, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila, the president of Caritas Internationalis, encouraged Catholics to work with members of other religions in spreading the teaching of the papal encyclical Laudato Si’.

The prelate described the encyclical as “the moral conscience of the Catholic Church on how to behave toward earth, a living environment for humans, a gift of God who creates life for all people.”

Indonesia has more Muslims than any other country: the nation of 255.5 million ranks fourth among the world’s nations in population and is 87% Muslim, 7% Protestant, 3% Catholic, and 2% Hindu.
