Fortifications of Philistine city unearthed
August 19, 2015
Israeli archeologists have unearthed what they believe to be the entrance gate of Gath, the Philistine city associated with Goliath in the Old Testament.
“We knew that Philistine Gath in the tenth to ninth century [B.C.] was a large city, perhaps the largest in the land at that time,” lead archeologist Aren Maeir of Bar-Ilan University told LiveScience.com. “These monumental fortifications stress how large and mighty this city was.”
