Sudan: pastors who faced death penalty released
August 07, 2015
Two Presbyterian pastors who faced flogging for offending Islam and the death penalty for espionage have been convicted in a Sudanese court of other crimes and released for time served.
The pastors were from the neighboring nation of South Sudan.
“We are very pleased that the two pastors are now out of detention, but they should not have been charged and detained at all, let alone convicted,” said Robert George, chairman of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom. “This case is a textbook example of the persecution of Christians in Sudan.”
