Pope Francis, with demands for simplicity, changing styles at Vatican

August 04, 2015

Pope Francis, with his simple tastes and his demand for restrained spending, has brought a significant change in style at the Vatican, Breitbart reports.

Prelates are far less likely to buy jewel-encrusted pectoral crosses or rings, merchants in Rome say. Pope Francis—who buys his own cassocks from an inexpensive shop, rather than having them tailored by one of Rome’s exclusive shops—would not approve of costly items, the bishops tell sellers.

“The caravan of midnight blue cars has ended,” says one cleric, referring to the cars that would bring prelates to work at the Vatican every day. More cardinals are walking to their offices.
