Extra papal audiences planned for Jubilee Year

August 03, 2015

Pope Francis plans to add an extra public audience to his schedule each month during the Jubilee Year.

Archbishop Georg Gänswein, the prefect of the pontifical household, told Vatican Radio that the additional papal audience might be held on Saturdays, although no final decision has been made. The Pope normally holds a public audience every Wednesday, and also meets with the public on Sundays to recite the Angelus and offer a short reflection.

Although he did not take a summer vacation, Pope Francis suspended his weekly audiences during July. He will resume the Wednesday audience beginning this week. Because of the hot weather, papal audiences in August will be held in the Paul VI auditorium rather than outdoors in St. Peter’s Square.
