English bishops' commission issues report on abuse allegations

August 03, 2015

The National Catholic Safeguarding Commission, established in 2008 by the Bishops Conference of England and Wales and the Conference of Religious of England and Wales, has released its annual report.

The report found that 79 "child-related" allegations were made in 2014, the third highest of the six years on record. These allegations involved 118 victims and 83 alleged abusers, one-third of them lay employees and volunteers, two-thirds of them clergy and religious. The report does not examine statistics for alleged victims by sex, as similar American reports have done.

The report also found 29 "vulnerable adult-related" allegations were made in 2014.
