Pope-emeritus Benedict XVI has returned to the Vatican, following a two-week stay at the summer papal residence in Castel Gandolfo.
In a letter to the town’s mayor, Milvia Monaschesi, the retired Pontiff thanked the residents for their hospitality, and said that he was refreshed by the “natural beauty” of the surroundings.
During his stay at Castel Gandolfo, the retired Pope made a rare public appearance, delivering a lecture on sacred music, after receiving honorary doctorates from the University of Krakow.
