Philippine cardinal decries wealthy nations’ power over international development agenda

In an article published on a United Nations blog, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila decried the control of international development agenda exercised by wealthier nations.
These nations, he charged, “favor restricted decision-making spaces they themselves control (OECD, G20, international financial institutions) rather than more inclusive spaces (UN).”
“Do the world’s states really wish to make the economy and finance serve the full development of all of us and conservation of our natural resources?” asked the prelate, who is also president of Caritas Internationalis. “Will they allow all countries to participate in economic and financial decisions?”
