US bishops’ delegation visits Ukraine

July 13, 2015

A delegation from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, led by Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville and Archbishop Blaise Cupich of Chicago, has visited Ukraine.

“The Church faces challenges to religious freedom in the occupied territories of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk,” said Stephen Colecchi, director of the USCCB’s Office of International Justice and Peace. “Church, civil society and government officials view the crisis in eastern Ukraine as a Russian incursion and occupation, not a civil war. The conflict in Ukraine has displaced over 1.2 million people and there are tremendous unmet humanitarian needs that require additional aid.”

In their fact finding trip, will Bishops Kurtz and Cupich be meeting with the ethnic Russian people in the eastern part of Ukraine? Or is this going to be a one sided indoctrination tour?
