Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has announced his intent to uphold the stand of his Liberal Party that “marriage is between a man and a woman,” and indicated that he will not support a move for legal recognition of same-sex marriage.
The Australian leader also said that the question of same-sex marriage is not a priority for his government. Consequently, the legislative committee that schedules issues for debate, which is controlled by Abbott’s coalition government, is unlikely to act on a bill calling for recognition of same-sex unions.

The current definition is ""marriage" means the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life." This was inserted in the Commonwealth Marriage Act in 2004. Like other places, there will be (is) a lightening attempt at change without much debate. The media constantly declares that the issue is "obvious" and "over". If Australia is to hold out, it will require a massive effort over time.
