Homosexual activists in Mexico have filed criminal complaints against the retired Archbishop of Guadalajara, after he denounced the country’s Supreme Court decision requiring state recognition of same-sex marriages.
In a television address, Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iniguez charged that the redefinition of marriage is an attack on an institution ordained by God. “Anything outside of this divine institution is an attack against it and is an aberration, and cannot be acceptable to a Catholic,” the cardinal said. He also deplored the lack of organized opposition from the Catholic Church.
A coalition of homosexual activists responded with a criminal complaint, charged that the cardinal’s statement would “incite violence.” The Union Diversa said that he was “fomenting homophobia and transphobia.”
