Italian cardinal writes book criticizing Kasper proposal

June 12, 2015

Cardinal Ennio Antonelli, who served as president of the Pontifical Council for the Family from 2008 until his retirement in 2012, has written a book strongly criticizing the proposal to admit to Holy Communion those who have remarried outside the Church.

The book includes a preface by Cardinal Elio Sgreccia, who served as president of the Pontifical Academy for Life from 2005 until 2008.

“The admission of the divorced and remarried and the cohabiting to the Eucharistic banquet involves a separation between mercy and conversion that does not seem to be in harmony with the Gospel,” Cardinal Antonelli said in his 72-page book. “This would be the only case of forgiveness without conversion. God always grants forgiveness; but this is received only by the humble, by one who recognizes that he is a sinner and strives to change his way of life.”

The upcoming Synod needs to speak the Truth VERY clearly to undo the confusion and moral damage of the Kasper proposal.
