Toronto Catholic-school trustees urge delay in implementation of mandatory sex-ed curriculum in Ontario

June 11, 2015

Two trustees of Toronto’s Catholic schools have called for a one-year delay in the implementation of a new sex-education curriculum, saying that it does not reflect Catholic teaching on love and marriage.

“Substantial parts of the curriculum contradict Catholic teachings,” said Angela Kennedy and Garry Tanuan, who sit on the board of the Catholic school district. They said that Catholic schools should not be required to accept a program that has been mandated throughout the province of Ontario.

“Catholic schools shouldn’t be forced to teach a program that doesn’t ground the expression of sexuality in love and marriage,” the two trustees argued.
