Rome parish takes homeless, poor on pilgrimage to Shroud exhibition in Turin

June 05, 2015

With the help of a donation from Pope Francis, a parish in Rome took 50 homeless and poor people on a pilgrimage to the exhibition of the Shroud of Turin.

Santa Lucia parish organized the trip for local residents who have been relying on help from the church. Pope Francis provided money to pay for a bus and supply food for the travelers, who stayed in a church-run hostel in Turin. The Pope said that it was appropriate for poor people to be involved in the exhibition of the Shroud because “they represented the suffering face of the Lord Jesus.”
